Wonga Beach was the highest we would be travelling in Queensland and we came to stay here so we could go and visit the Daintree Rainforest. To get to the Daintree we had to drive our car onto a ferry and travel across the river that way. It was fun and an interesting way to travel. I liked the rainforest, it was beautiful with all the trees and vines. We had to walk slowly and look very carefully to spot the interesting things living there. Mummy and daddy gave us a task to look for three spiders and three fungi, then mummy gave me another task to find some butterflies. Fungi is like mushrooms and in the rainforest there are heaps of different ones. The most interesting one I saw was brown and white, it grew on the ground and had lots of layers growing on top of each other. We also saw three cassowaries. Two were babies and one daddy. I felt really, really, excited to see them in the wild, they are my favourite bird and during this trip I kept saying to mum that I hoped we would see some.

The next few days we did a lot of driving and camping looking at waterfalls in the Atherton Tablelands. I like waterfalls, but sometimes I feel scared thinking about how it would feel to fall off one. We swam in some of them and some of them you could just look at. We also saw some lakes that were inside volcano craters, and at the Dinner falls I accidentally slipped and fell in.

The last stop before we drove a long way across to Northern Territory was Undara Lava Tubes. It was fun to camp here because they were a bush camping resort and they had night activities and a big fire. The first night we went on a bush walk with Steve the tour guide. He was funny because he got bitten by a frog and then tried to poke one in the eye. He also caught a few cane toads and took them to the kitchen to freeze. I liked the lava tubes, they were a lot cooler underground that the temperatures up the top, and they were dark inside.

We had a long way to drive across Queensland, I love driving because we have lap tops and computer games to take turns playing. I have also been reading lots of Roald Dahl books, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda. The car is also air conditioned, so that is lovely when it is hot outside.
