Week 17 Highlights

Coochin Creek: I felt empty and disappointed, because we were leaving the Gold Coast and all the theme parks behind us. We drove past them for the last time, left the Gold Coast and continued our trek around Australia.

Our trip led us to Coochin Creek. Coochin Creek was a camping ground in a national park that was surrounded by pine forests. It was a very beautiful spot but there were two major set backs; the millions of mosquitoes and the crazy bogans. We managed to solve the mosquito infestation by visiting town and purchasing insect repellent, a fly swat and mosquito coils. Mum tried solving the bogan festival by calling the police. At midnight the cops rocked up and simply told us there was nothing they could do and if we want peace and quiet we could go to a Big 4 caravan park. It was a long, sleepless night.

Once the sun came up the partying bogans packed up and left in a cloud of dust. They were long gone by the time the Ranger showed up, however Dad told him everything that happened. Before we left we had a lovely and revitalizing swim in the creek.

Australia Zoo: We couldn’t come all the way to Beerwah and not go to Australia Zoo so we felt that we should spend a day at this wildlife sanctuary. Mum and Dad paid the entry fee before we began looking around at all the many animals. The first crazy creatures we looked at were some reptiles and alligators. In this section there was the most spectacular and legendary animal ever, it was the Rhinoceros Iguana. The iguana was so amazing. It was a green and grey colour, fat, and it hardly moved. It even had a small horn on the end of its nose like a rhino.

We continued exploring the zoo looking at all the marvelous animals there were; crocodiles; snakes; lizards and other reptiles. There also was; kangaroos; wallabies; koalas; wombats and many other Australian animals. Later in the day, before lunch, we went to watch a show at the Crocoseum. The show we watched started off with an aviation display by macaws, parrots and cockatoos. After this we watched some guys playing around with a crocodile. It was very entertaining and amazing viewing some of the things the crocodile could do.

After lunch we left Mum to her own devices at the caravan and continued browsing through the zoo. At the end of another action packed day we left Australia Zoo and all its splendour and went to our next overnight stop.
