The first thing we do each morning is to peer out from behind the blinds to see what sort of weather may confront us for the day. Today, we didn’t need to. Raindrops continued to pelt the top of the van and I could just feel that the sun was not going to shine down on us today, either.
Dragging ourselves out of bed we spent the morning reading the Sunday newspaper in the annexe while drinking copious cups of coffee. It seemed the best thing to do in weather like this, but it wasn’t long before the tourist spirit rose up inside us and we felt compelled to explore our location.
With lunch out of the way we took a drive into Airlie Beach to see what remained of the town after the Schoolies onslaught. Surprisingly there weren’t smashed bodies in the gutter, broken glass littering the main street or kids hanging off the apartment balconies. In fact, it looked quite sedate. They were certainly out and about but they appeared to be treating themselves, and the town, quite well – for Schoolies!
We parked the car and spent a little while touring some of the shops and then headed along the foreshore. But it wasn’t long before the rain returned and we were heading for cover once again.
After picking up a few groceries, we drove back to the caravan park and spent the day amusing ourselves as best we could.
