This week we were going back to Melbourne to watch the AFL grand final. Luckily for me my team St Kilda was in the grand final and I was happy and excited to see them play this week. I was hoping to see Nick Riewoldt, he is the St Kilda captain. I told mum and dad that I would ask him to adopt me if we saw him. We went into town each day and went to Fed Square, because there were footy activities all week and they were giving away free green footballs. Unfortunately we didn’t get a green footy, we didn’t want to queue for 2 hours!
I wore my St Kilda jumper every day and I bought a scarf and beanie and had my St Kilda blow up hand. Lots of people said “Hi” to me and “carn the Sainters”, one lady even told me I was the best supporter she had seen. On the Friday we went into town again to watch the big grand final parade. There were a lot of people it was very busy and loud, it was hard to see the parade because there were a lot of tall people, so I stood on a bin with a funny Collingwood supporter. He was friendly. I saw the St Kilda players drive past and I even saw Nick Riewoldt, but he was too far away to ask him to adopt me. Boo Hoo!
On Saturday we went to Fed Square again to watch the grand final on the big screen TV. We got there pretty early and found a good spot. There was a big crowd of people, more than I thought would be there. We couldn’t get tickets into the MCG because they cost heaps of money and were very hard to find.
Finally the game got going I was feeling nervous and excited. At quarter time Saints were down by quite a bit and I thought they would lose. I even asked dad if we could go home because I didn’t want to see them lose. But at half time it looked a bit better. At half time they were kicking footys into the crowd, Jordan jumped up and caught one. I was kind of sad that I missed out, but was happy for Jordan to get one. Half time finished and the game was on again. It was so exciting because St Kilda were coming back, it was so close I thought the Saints would win but OH NO, the score was even and the siren went. The 2010 AFL Grand Final was the first draw in AFL history (2 had happened in the VFL), and even though I didn’t see my team win, it was fun to be there. When I looked at the crowd they all seemed sad and disappointed because there wasn’t a winner, no one could believe what had happened.
