16/07/2010 : We have finally left on our trip that will take us all around Australia. After this we will have been to every capital city in this country. Our first stop is a little camping ground on the side of the road 70 km east of Southern Cross. It has now been a while now since we left Busso having stopped in Narrogin to buy some bread from the bakery for lunch.
17/07/2010 : We arose from our slumber and prepared to head to Lake Ballard. On our trip we passed through Kalgoorlie and to my surprise it wasn’t a hole like Dunsborough (Ha Tim). Despite this we kept driving and ended up 50 km south of Lake Ballard at the biggest hole ever – Menzies. We finally arived at Lake Ballard to find it absolutely stunning and breath taking and I was so thankful that we were able to stay the night.
18/07/2010 : Day 3 and we packed up and left for Kalgoorlie. Upon arrival we were faced with the dilemma of choosing where to stay having not booked anywhere previously. We chose to stay at some random caravan park for 2 nights. We then “set up shop” and sat around doing nothing. After we had dinner we went to sleep.
19/07/2010 : In the morning I woke up, had brekky and showered before venturing off into town. First off we went to the Western Australian Museum and learnt about uses for certain trees. Then the tour guide led us inside where we able to continue exploring by ourselves. I decided to part with some of my savings because I came across some small nuggets of gold for sale. I purchased 0.3 grams of GOLD – smaller than the head of a pin – but it is my very first investment.
After a hearty lunch we went shopping where I bought my PC game, Spore Galactic Adventures. It started getting late, as a result we went back to the caravan park.
20/07/2010 : I awoke from my sleep, packed up my gear and helped pack the caravan before hopping in the car as we began out trek across the Nullarbor. Basically, we just drove all day listening to The Chronicles of Narnia and playing games on the laptop. At first I was a little skeptical of the CD but as the story unravelled its mysteries I was enthralled and begged Mum to put the next CD on when it finished. When it started getting dark, we stopped and camped on the side of the road.
21/07/2010 : On this day we woke up, cleaned up and then left for another day on the Nullarbor. It was basically just like yesterday – boring, desolate and other words that evade my memory right now. The only seeming difference was that we listened to the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – more enthralling Narnian Chronicles. Again we stopped on the side of the road and that was the end of day 6.
22/07/2010 : Basically we woke up, went driving, listened to music and played on the laptops. It was another day much like the previous ones – all day driving. Then we came to a cute, small town called Fowler’s Bay and we stayed there overnight.

Hi Deb, Stu and grandkids
Sounds like a highlight for Jordan is driving for many hours each day accross the Nullarbor!! When Dad and I drove across the Nullarbor to Canberra and Sydney in Dec 1972 with Debbie and Michelle (Amanda flew with Gran Snell) the road was not sealed and the Vauxhall Cresta was not airconditioned so it was really great!!
Love the the photos and daily reports – it is a great way to keep in touch. But I was expecting to see Gromit in lots more pics. Make a note of the really good caravan spots, so dad and me can visit them next year when we do our grey nomad trip around Australia.
It’s too late now Debbie, but we lived in a GEHA house at the end of Hare Street, Lamington for 3 yrs in Kalgoorlie – you were only 4 months old when we went there.
When do we find out which bakery is the pick for the week?
lots of love from Mum and Dad.
Glad you are enjoying the ramblings of our silly family. I quite liked Kalgoorlie not sure if it’s changed heaps since you were there, but the old buildings, wide roads etc are obviously still the same. I guess now that you are retired you have nothing better to do than read our bog daily, aahh the life of the retiree!!
Hello Robinsons, especially to Miriam, Levi and Jordan (I hope I did not leave anyone out this time.)
Nice to know that you guys are travelling along quite well. I enjoy the photos a lot. Thanks for the uploads.
To Jordan, isnt it nice to be actually heading somewhere instead of just driving. Good luck on your investment.
To Mr. Robinson, I think you’ve started a habit. Dad lost again.
enjoy
Our apologies David – we thought you were David Harrison (one of Jordan’s friends)
Sad to hear that I’ve started the demise of Mr Cam. Still Sheed’s is a great opponent.
BTW – if you’re wanting to do some pastoral care for Jordan while he’s away, you could rouse his friends to comment on his blog – he’s feeling a little depressed at the moment.
Hi Stuart and family,
Wish I was there with you! Your road trip is what I always wanted to do, ever since I worked up north near Kununurra, doing survey work for today’s Keep River National Park. That was in 1972, so I am looking forward to your pictures to see what it looks like today, should you ever get there. As a truck fan I miss Australia’s Road Trains here in South Africa, so how about a photograph of one?
Have a wonderful and safe journey and keep us informed.
Kind regards
Jurg, the Ungardener
