The beginning of week two, we made our way to Streaky Bay. The caravan park we stayed at was beautiful. We had a site right next to the beach and decided to have fish and chips for dinner (which we got from a cafe with really hot guys working there – He He).
We had originally decided to stay there for only one night but it was so immaculate we had to stay one more. The very next day we awoke and went for a stroll along the beach into the petite little town which had marvellous old antique buildings that had a bit of a modern touch to them. In town we went to Elliot’s Bakery and Cafe it was a very friendly place with a nice smelling aroma.
Late that afternoon we trekked on down to Evans’ oyster shed. The shed is a family run business and the man there was friendly and nice. He gave us 2 dozen oysters and he also mentioned a lot about his son which I thought was so lovely. He must be very proud of both his children, especially because his son played for Port Adelaide! We arrived back at camp when the tide started receeding and Jordan, Levi and I went and collected razor fish and pippis for our seafood cuisine.
After Streaky Bay we left to go and have two night stay at Pildappa Rock. The rock looks a lot like Uluru only not so isolated. While the boys went off and set up their rabbit traps I was content to stay back and catch up on some letters that needed to be written.
The second day we went for an excursion to the Gawler Ranges for a fun-filled 4wd exhibition and to also learn some historic facts about the rocks. The drive to all the places was awesome except for the part when Dad forgot to wind up his window and we all had a nice mud bath!
After a tiring day we went back home to our cosy caravan and had a nice well-earned rest ZZZZzzzzzz!
Next we left to go to Port Augusta. On the way into the town, which was very similar to Bunbury except it looked more antique, we met a friendly person who showed us the way to the sky with his stub little index finger. We did some food shopping to stock up our pantry for the next few days. Then we drove a little longer to stay on the side of the road near Pimba.
Next day was a long drive to Coober Pedy. It was alright though because I had my Sims 2 double deluxe game and was sucked into the hyper reality of that (BTW – if anyone knows any cheat to get lots of money please send it to me. Thank you). The rest of the trip I slept and then we booked into RIBA’s caravan park and underground camping.
The second day at Coober Pedy we went and explored the place and had a look around. I myself bought a beautiful Sterling silver necklace with a gorgeous cut and polished opal. The rest of the children bought opals and Mum bought a beautiful silver opal ring.
With the remains of daylight we scurried over to the Old Timer’s Mine and did an underground tour, watched some of the mining trucks work and did some noodling (noodling is like panning for gold but you try to find opals in the big pits of potch and rocks and OPALS!)
That night instead of staying in our caravan our accommodation underground and it was AWESOME. (Did you know that it gets too hot in Coober Pedy in the summer so people have to live underground where it’s safe and cool).
