The Kalgoorlie pipeline runs from Mundaring, Perth to Kalgoorlie and was created by Charles Yelverton O’Connor. Unfortunately, C.Y. O’Connor took his own life 10 months before the water flowed through it because there was too much pressure from the media. It’s approx. 560 km long.
I give it an 8.5/10 on the Uber scale. It was very long and cool to see it pop up every now and again while driving. Also the reason I gave such a high score was because the pipeline was long and snaked its way to Kalgoorlie but unlike other big stuff you couldn’t really see all of it at the one time so it didn’t seem all that big. I really admired that this pipeline was an awesome example of great engineering and all done by hand. Interestingly they used lead piping joints at first which wouldn’t be accepted these days because of the probability of lead poisoning.
